Rhyme

Rhyme XM 65
Snoop Dogg's Classic Hip-Hop/Rap

I don't care for hip-hop/rap music. It's not that I'm overwhelmed by the beats (certainly not) or offended by the scatological lyrics (naughty words in music stopped being entertaining to me decades ago) and gangster posturing (oooh, they're tough guys), I find it all kind of amusing.

The music is too repetitive and most of it sounds looped. The vocals are highly redundant also. At one point I thought my record player was skipping, but then remembered that I haven't listened to one in years . . . so I'll just skip this channel too.

Heard on Rhyme:
Erick Sermon, Bmdigi; Xzibit, Eyes May Shine; Delinquent Habit, Tres Delinquent; Brand Nubian, All for One; Onyx, Throw Ya Gunz; Roxanne Shante, Brothers Aint Shit; Chubb Rock, Ya Bad Chubbs; Grave Diggaz, Nowhere to Run; Rakim, It's Been A Long Time; Capone-N-Noreaga, T.O.N.Y; INI, Fakin Jax; Method Man, Bring the Pain.

Time spent listening: about 30 minutes or so.

Time spent listening: about 30 minutes

Boot Camp Underway!

Week 1

This week's featured channels with XM Radio descriptions:

40s on 4 XM channel 4
The Forties and More...On Track Number Four

It's swing time! Benny Goodman is the King of Swing and Doris Day is singing with Les Brown's band of renown. The Great Depression is behind us, but World War II has ushered in a new era of sacrifice. On the home front, Rosie the Riveter is keeping up the war efforts by day and keeping the home fires burning by night.

Hear it all on The 40's - the great singable, swingable songs; the dance shows that brought those smart hotel ballrooms right to your living room radio console; news about our boys overseas. Revel in the heyday of the big bands and the hits of the 30's and 40's. And take time out for a laugh with Spike. Jones, of course.

Frank's Place XM channel 73
American Songbook

A great American art form has a dedicated XM channel. Frank's Place celebrates the incomparable American song style with 24/7 programming under the leadership of legendary radio personality Jonathan Schwartz. It provides an unmatched showcase for the music and lyrics that have earned these songs a special place in the world of music.

XM has been granted exclusive access to priceless recordings from the Sinatra Archives and you can hear these in all their historical glory on Frank's Place. With help from the Sinatra Family, XM presents the music and legacy of Frank Sinatra in a way never heard before in American broadcasting. You'll hear landmark interpretations and rarely-heard historic performances. Together, XM and the Sinatra Family will work to make sure his monumental presence continues to be felt as an inspiration to all who loved his music.

Radio Classics XM channel 164
The Golden Age of Radio

The passionate voices and chilling sound effects take you back to another age. Experience the audio magic of legendary old time radio dramas, mysteries, comedies and variety programs.

Who's on first? Well, we've got the likes of the genius comedy routine of Abbott & Costello.

You can join the nostalgic experience of the greatest comedy team of George Burns and Gracie Allen. These former vaudevillians, whether onstage or off - played it for love, for laughs and always for keeps. Or there's Jack. . .Jack became one of the biggest names in radio with The Jell-O Program starring Jack Benny. For thirty minutes, each Sunday night at seven o'clock, Jack and his gang of regulars would hit the airwaves with "their version" of current films, with a bit of music, and always with lots of laughter.

And we can't forget about Dragnet, first heard in June 1949, on NBC.

Everything from classic murder mysteries, radio noir, and historical dramas to comedies, thrillers and science fiction. You'll paint a picture of the characters, we'll provide the dialogues and set the stage.

Experience it again, or for the very first time, on Radio Classics.

New Format

Boot Camp 4 will be slightly different than in previous editions. There will be three featured channels a week (vs. 1 channel /per day) and listeners can tune it at their leisure throughout the week.

I think the change is a good one. It will give me more of a chance to get to know the channels.

For more information read the Annoncement on XM411 .
